There is No Need to Compare Your Journey to Others

People Walking

Scrolling through social media, it’s easy to catch glimpses of other people’s milestones. Just today, I saw a photo of an old school friend standing proudly by a “Sold” sign in front of her new house. She looked so genuinely happy, and while I felt joy for her, I also experienced a wave of disappointment. I’ve been working non-stop over the past four years, building my business and working towards my own dream of buying a place with a studio—where I can create a welcoming space for in-person sessions, with my clients. Seeing her photo made me question my own progress, wondering when my turn will come.

When we are so focused on our goals, it’s easy to look around and feel like others are moving faster, hitting those milestones that we’re still working towards. We can start to wonder if we’re somehow behind. But life isn’t a race, and there’s no set timeline. The path we’re on is uniquely our own, and each step, no matter how small, is bringing us closer to where we’re meant to be. We all have journeys shaped by our individual experiences, decisions, and challenges. Some people reach their dreams quickly; others take longer. There’s no shame in either. We are all just people finding our way, moving, learning, and growing at our own speed. And that’s okay.

We often feel pressured to achieve certain milestones by a specific age or within a particular timeframe, as if doing so will validate our success. However, true fulfillment isn’t about keeping pace with others; it’s about recognising what really matters to us and pursuing it wholeheartedly.. regardless of how long it takes. There’s beauty in the process—even in the waiting. The moments of growth, resilience, and learning that we experience along the way guide us to where we need to be. When we stop comparing ourselves to others, we allow ourselves to fully enjoy our own journey.

So, the next time you see a post online about someone else’s achievement, take a moment to feel happy for them, but don’t let it shake your sense of purpose. Trust in your own process, and know that everything will fall into place in its own time. There’s no rush, no need to compare—only the opportunity to live fully.
